Surfrider Nanaimo Info Night
Join us for an evening of ocean-minded community, connection, and action as we discuss starting Surfrider Foundation Nanaimo chapter. Surfrider is a grassroots volunteer network of coastal and ocean lovers, surfers, beachgoers, and divers working to protect their local coastline and waters. Now, we're trying to get a Nanaimo chapter off the ground, and we'd love for you to join the team!
You’ll learn about Surfrider’s national and local campaigns, from eliminating single-use plastics to restoring coastal ecosystems, and discover how you can get involved right here in Nanaimo.
The night will include free snacks, discussions, meeting likeminded folks, and signing up for open positions for the Surfrider Nanaimo Executive Committee!

Plastic People Screening - Vancouver
Join us for a screening of Ziya Tong’s award-winning feature documentary Plastic People:
Plastic People investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics on human health. Almost every bit of plastic ever made breaks down into “microplastics.” These microscopic particles drift in the air, float in all bodies of water, and mix into the soil, becoming a permanent part of the environment.
Now, leading scientists are finding these particles in our bodies: organs, blood, brain tissue, and even the placentas of new mothers. What is the impact of these invisible invaders on our health? And can anything be done about it?
Sponsored by Reel Green and Patagonia Vancouver.
After the film, please join us for a discussion panel featuring:
- Lilly Woodbury, ocean health advocate & Regional Manager with Surfrider Foundation Canada
- Dr. Jiayang Zhao, UBC Behavioural Scientist
- Matt Dwyer, Patagonia VP of Product Footprint
- Justin Barnes, Reel Green™ Lead
We will discuss the film and how you can get involved in combatting plastic proliferation and pollution.
This screening is supported and made possible by our partnership with Patagonia. RSVP here!
