ABOUT the program
BC Green Business, an initiative of Synergy Foundation, is a certification program that supports businesses finding practical and affordable ways to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to their local communities. In addition to being certified as Silver, Gold, or Green, all businesses across the province that complete all Surfrider action points on their sector checklist have the opportunity to be recognized as a Water Friendly Business. These action points encompass practices that have a direct and positive impact on our oceans and waterways, including single-use plastic reduction, water conservation, chemical runoff, microplastics, and seafood sourcing. BC Green Business has over 250 members across all sectors who have collectively, eliminated over 3,065,000 single-use plastic items and saved over 465,000 m³ of water since 2013.

WATER FRIENDLY BUSINESS
In partnership with Surfrider Foundation Canada, BC Green Business offers the Water Friendly Business program to businesses across British Columbia. By completing all the Surfrider-approved action points on their sector checklist, businesses have the opportunity to be recognized as a Water Friendly Business, furthering their commitment to protecting our waterways.
These action points include practices that have a direct and positive impact on our water systems, such as reducing single-use plastics, conserving water, minimizing chemical runoff, addressing microplastics, and sourcing sustainable seafood.

Certification PROCESS
You can become a member in 5 easy steps:
1. Fill out the Become a Member form at bcgreenbusiness.ca to tell us about your business.
2. Complete a site visit with one of BC Green Business’ friendly verifiers.
3. Receive a list of customized suggestions to help you take action.
4. Receive your final score, including a certificate, decals, and a marketing kit.
5. Celebrate your success and get featured on BCGB and Surfrider’s social media channels & websites
