Call for Bold Federal Action on Plastics!
Plastic pollution isn’t just “out there” in the ocean, it’s in our food, water, and our bodies. It’s shaping our health, our ecosystems, and our collective future.
By contacting your Member of Parliament, you’re helping push for stronger more ambitious plastic reduction regulations, including capping plastic production, eliminating chemicals of concern, and investing in reuse and refill systems.
This is our collective moment to shift the narrative, from disposable culture to a future that protects our health, communities, coastlines, climate and environment at large.
Keeping BC’s Coasts Clean: A Call to Restore Long-Term shoreline cleanup Funding
Call on the Government of BC to reinstate funding for shoreline cleanups through Clean Coast, Clean Waters. The critical effort of restoring shorelines from toxic plastic pollution work cannot be done through short-term pilot projects. It requires stable, multi-year funding that communities can rely on.
FOAM FREE WATERS
British Columbia has a clear opportunity to stop this pollution at the source. Durable, air-filled flotation systems already exist and are widely used, proving that safer alternatives are available and effective.
By writing to British Columbia’s Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, you’re calling for a province-wide prohibition on polystyrene in aquatic infrastructure, a practical, preventative solution that protects our waters before pollution occurs.
prEVENTING Pe-production pellet spillS
For a decade, Surfrider Canada has been monitoring pre-production pellet pollution along British Columbia’s waterways. These pellets, known as nurdles, pollute ecosystems and harm aquatic species.
This pollution is completely preventable. You can write to your Member of Legislative Assembly and the Minister of Environment and Parks and call on them to establish a legally binding code of practice under section 22 of the Environmental Management Act.
Together, we can continue ending the plastic pollution crisis.
Bye Bye Mini Bottles!
We’re calling on the Government of BC to amend the Single-Use and Plastic Waste Prevention Regulation to prohibit accommodation providers from offering single-use amenities in rooms.
